American Utopia

David Byrne’s American Utopia tour has been cropping up on our Instagram feed for more than a month now. Some of our contacts have even seen it twice – traveling to a new city to do so. The multi-instrumentalist Grammy and Oscar winner and the leader of the Talking Heads, Byrne has built a superlative career in the arts. But it’s safe to say he’s never put on a show quite like this: no fixed set design, a model of a brain, a supporting band that swells to 12, and all dressed in grey and moving about the stage in choreographed chaos on bare feet.

Byrne has spent the last year on tour. The schedule is insane – crisscrossing America and hitting the major festivals here (Coachella, New Orleans Jazzfest) before heading to Europe and doing the same – only to head back to the US for a spell (he hits the eastern seaboard from Maine down to Atlanta) before Europe and then China and Australia and New Zealand. Well worth checking out.
