Sauna Use Proven For Healthspan Extension

In recent decades, sauna bathing has emerged as a means to increase lifespan and improve overall health, based on compelling data from observational, interventional, and mechanistic studies. Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s extensive and exhaustive investigation looks into the positive health effects of getting hot. Dr. Rhonda Patrick explains that in the Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease Risk Factor (KIHD) study, “men who used the sauna two to three times per week were 27 percent less likely to die from cardiovascular-related causes than men who didn’t use the sauna.” These results were consistent regardless of the participant’s age, activity levels, and other lifestyle factors. Additionally, men who used the sauna 5-7 times a week, “had a 66 percent lower risk of developing dementia and a 65 percent lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, compared to men who used the sauna only one time per week.” According to Dr. Patrick, the ideal temperature for a conventional sauna is between 176 degrees F and 194 degrees F. The ideal amount of time for each sauna session is at least 20 minutes. [1]
