Eat Right and Stay Fit

eat right and stay fit to beat alzheimer’s

It is a little-appreciated fact that Alzheimer’s takes 20 years to manifest, so the way we are living now will have massive implications for our chances of getting Alzheimer’s in the future. And there is an increasing amount of science linking diet and activity with the risk of developing it altogether. Specifically, a low-glycemic-load diet and high levels of physical activity — notably, fast-twitch muscle-building activity — are extremely important (as corroborated by this well-known study in the JAMA journal).

Diet and exercise are not just about vanity, they are critical to long-term brain health.  As our long time go-to on all such topics, Art de Vany says, “Both exercise and the Med Diet protect against developing insulin resistance, which is the major pathway underlying all the other factors involved in Alzheimer’s. Have a high score for physical activity and for adherence to a Mediterranean diet and be protected from incurring the brain damage of Alzheimer’s.”

Eat right and stay fit to keep your brain healthy.
