The somewhat spookily named Ambrosia clinic in California is where – for $8000 – anyone over 35 can get a transfusion of blood from a young person. This young-blood treatment is picking up fans in Silicon Valley, among them mega-investor Peter Thiel: “I’m looking into parabiosis stuff, which I think is really interesting. This is where they did the young blood into older mice and they found that had a massive rejuvenating effect,” the tech billionaire told Inc. magazine. “I think there are a lot of these things that have been strangely under-explored.”
He is reported to be spending $40,000/quarter on transfusions (but not from Ambrosia). There is considerable disease risk in taking in any human blood product. It’s one thing if you need it for an operation, or some emergency. It’s a whole other thing to be taking it on a regular basis. We suspect that there may be benefits, and that these have to do with the increased number of stem cells in the younger person’s blood. But there are other ways to get your stem cells and hormone levels up besides going full Dracula. More on this next week.
